Authorities also mentioned that they will be watchful during the holiday weekend to stop any drivers who want to mix driving and alcohol.

“We want people to celebrate as always, but if they are going to drink and need to get somewhere, they better have a designated driver,” expressed Lt. David Reynoso, spokesperson for the BPPD.

Wednesday’s arrest on the 3800 Block of Maine Avenue shows the careful enforcement work that the police department is carrying out.

An undercover agent discovered Jose Guadalupe Garcia, 61, drinking beer inside his vehicle, which he parked near the corner of Ramona and Baldwin Park Boulevards.

Garcia began to drive his vehicle and was stopped just two blocks away by a highway patrol officer.

There were open alcoholic beverages inside the vehicle and it was later discovered that Garcia had a suspended driver’s license. He was arrested and booked for Driving Under the Influence.

Other law enforcement agencies such as the California Highway Patrol (CHP) remind people as well that from Friday to Monday May 28th there will be a period of maximum enforcement.

CHP agents will be on the look out for motorists that are a danger on the streets from Monday May 25th at 6:00 p.m. to Monday may 28th at 11:00 p.m.
