Irwindale Police Officer Charged with Grand Theft, Elder Abuse

Dennis Alva, 47, is accused of stealing the life savings of his 89-year-old father.

An Irwindale police officer pleaded not guilty today to grand theft, second-degree burglary and elder abuse for allegedly taking $250,000 in cash that was hidden in his elderly father's detached garage, the District Attorney’s Office announced.

Dennis Alva, 47, is accused of stealing the life savings of his 89-year-old father.

The father alerted Azusa police in January when he discovered that the cash he had hidden throughout his garage was missing.

Alva surrendered today in Los Angeles County Superior Court, Department 30.

He is scheduled to return to court on May 6 in Department 33 for a preliminary hearing setting. The case is being prosecuted by the Justice System Integrity Division.

If convicted, Alva faces up to four years in county jail.
