City of Baldwin Park and Waste Management Improve Communities through the "Clean Cart Challenge" Recycling Education Program
Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful Award The City of Baldwin Park a Waste Management Think Green® Grant for The Clean Cart Challenge Recycling Education Program
The City of Baldwin Park was awarded a Waste Management Think Green® Grant as part of the environmental services company’s nationwide effort to improve community environments through education, recycling, cleanups and beautification programs.
The Baldwin Park Teen Center will be engaging high school students from throughout the city to carry out the Clean Cart Challenge program aimed at raising awareness and rewarding residents for recycling right. Students will receive education on what type of items can be placed in a recycle cart and will be joining the Waste Management team on Fridays, which is service day in Baldwin Park, to identify residents who are recycling right, meaning no trash found inside their recycling carts.
To meet the Clean Cart Challenge, residents’ recycle carts must only contain acceptable recyclable items. Residents who have a “clean” recycle cart will receive a “Congratulations” tag on their recycle cart. Residents whose recycle carts are contaminated with non-recyclable items will receive an “Oops, Not Everything in Your Cart is Recyclable” tag. All residents who met the Clean Cart Challenge will be entered into a drawing for a free month of trash service from Waste Management. Students will receive community service hours for their volunteer efforts.
“Keep America Beautiful is committed to building and sustaining vibrant communities throughout the country,” said Jennifer Jehn, president and CEO of Keep America Beautiful. “Waste Management is working closely with Baldwin Park to bring people together to transform public places into beautiful spaces. We know that when people come together for a common cause, positive and lasting change happens.”
“The WM Think Green® Grant provides us with a great avenue to demonstrate how Waste Management and Keep America Beautiful Think Green every day,” said Teri Muse, Community Relations Manager for Waste Management of San Gabriel Valley. “Helping to make our communities cleaner and safer is part of our company’s mission to be a good community partner.”
