Baldwin Park Residents Joins the Fight for Immigration Reform

A rally seeking immigration reform was held in Baldwin Park on Sunday and others traveled in bus to a Citizenship Summit in Los Angeles.

With immigration legislation once again in play, and with president Barack Obama preparing to push forward on an immigration bill by the end of summer, residents in Baldwin Park are joining the fight for immigration reform.

A rally in support of immigration reform was held on Sunday by members of the San Gabriel Valley chapter of the Immigrant Youth Coalition at Morgan Park, reported the San Gabriel Valley Tribune.

Four young men shared their experience as undocumented people in this country, and advocated for the implementation of the Transparency and Responsibility Using State Tools, or TRUST Act, reported the Tribune.

The TRUST Act, aims to limit state and local cops' cooperation with federal immigration agents. Tom Ammiano, a Democratic Assembly member from the Bay Area, announced on December he's bringing back a third version of the bill.

Last Wednesday, more than 400 people traveled from St. John the Baptist Church in Baldwin Park to downtown Los Angeles in support of a Citizenship Summit. Mario Maciel told Patch.

Congresswoman Judy Chu, State Senator Kevin De Leon, and over 30 members of the clergy from across the Los Angeles called on Congress and the President to create an immigration policy that provides a direct path to citizenship. 

During the "Campaing for Citizenship", people of all backgrounds gave public testimony of their immigrant experiences.
