Financial Aid Workshops Offered for Students

MAPS 4 COLLEGE Financial Aid workshops provide students an opportunity to win money and have their college application fees covered.

Starting next week, MAPS 4 College will be hosting three financial aid workshops to show students and families how they can obtain money to go to college.

People who participate in the events get a chance to win $1,000 and have the City of Baldwin Park pay for their college applications, said Sarai Koo, founder and president of MAPS 4 College.

Presentations run from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Feb. 8 at , Feb. 15 at the and Feb. 22 at  Registration is required at least five days before each workshop.

“This is open to everybody, whether they live in Baldwin Park or not,’’ said Koo. “All they need to do is bring the documentation before the deadline.’’

Documents that will be required at the workshop include the parents' 2011 income tax return and the student's Social Security number card.

Students who do not have a Social Security card will still have an opportunity on Feb. 15 to get information about financial aid.

MAPS 4 College is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization that helps students graduate from high school, get accepted to a college, and attend college without taking any remedial courses. MAPS 4 College also helps students graduate from college, gain job readiness skills, and find a career, according to information on its Web site.
