Big, loud blockbusters tend to draw the summer crowds, it's been said, and 2013 may have the biggest and loudest yet. But will the summer be even bigger and louder?

Iron Man 3 - Friday, May 3 (PG-13)

The third installment of the franchise that has already brought in more than a billion dollars finds Tony Stark (Robert Downey, Jr.) battling an enemy out to eliminate Stark’s friends and family.

Star Trek: Into Darkness - Friday, May 17 (PG-13)

The reboot of the Star Trek movie franchise gets its first sequel, following 2009’s re-launch. Into Darkness follows Captain Kirk (Chris Pine) and the rest of the Enterprise crew attempting to save the world from a one-man weapon of mass destruction.

The Hangover: Part III  - Friday, June 24 (R)

No wedding, no bachelor party - what could go wrong for the Wolfpack this time? Todd Phillips’s third entry into the wildly popular franchise (which has earned over $1 billion to date) is likely to shock, nauseate and satisfy movie-goers’ hunger for raunchy humor.

June Movies

Man of Steel - Friday, June 14 (PG-13)

In one of the most highly anticipated summer releases, Superman gets yet another reboot, with Henry Cavill taking the role of a child sent to Earth from his dying planet (Krypton) and adopted by a couple in Kansas. Posing as journalist Clark Kent, Superman uses his powers to protect his new planet from evil.

Monsters University - Friday, June 21 (G)

The wildly popular 2001 animated movie Monsters, Inc., gets a prequel, telling the tale of how Mike Wazowski (voiced by John Goodman) and Sully (voiced by Billy Crystal) got over their differences and became best friends during their time at the “University of Fear.”

World War Z - Friday, June 21 (PG-13)

Brad Pitt stars in this zombie war film that hopes to cash in on the recent zombie craze led by TV’s The Walking Dead. The Killing’s Mireille Enos, Lost’s Matthew Fox and Breaking Bad’s Bryan Cranston also star in this action flick.

July Movies

Despicable Me 2 - Wednesday, July 3 (PG)

The unusual 2010 animated hit, which found villain Gru attempting to steal the moon but becoming a proud papa to a trio of orphaned girls, gets a summer sequel. In Despicable Me 2, Gru and his minions will help the Anti-Villain League battle the super criminal that took Gru’s place.

Pacific Rim -  Friday, July 12 (R)

Guillermo Del Toro turns his unique visual style (Pan’s Labyrinth and The Hobbit) to an epic sea battle between monstrous sea creatures and massive robots - one of which uses an oil tanker as a club!

The Wolverine - Friday, July 26 (PG-13)

Following an initial hit movie and a successful “origins” prequel, Hugh Jackman returns as Marvel’s Wolverine, battling samurai steel in modern-day Japan.

August Movies

Elysium - Friday, August 9 (unrated to date)

Matt Damon and Jodie Foster team up in this sci-fi sequel to District 9, where Damon seeks to leave a ruined Earth for the supposed paradise of Elysium. Jodie Foster plays the mayor of Elysium, and is none to ready to admit Damon.

The Mortal Instruments: City of Bones - Friday, August 23 (PG)

Fans of young adult novels awaiting the second installment of the Hunger Game trilogy movie may look to The Mortal Instrument: City of Bones an ample substitute during late summer. The movie tells the tale of Clary Fray discovering she is not ordinary teen, but a Shadowhunter, a group of half-angel warriors in a never-ending battle against demons.

One Direction: This is Us - Friday, August 30 (PG)

Gaggles of girls may squeal to see one of the world’s biggest bands on the big screen, and the 3D look behind-the-scenes of the band’s world tour.
