Second Earthquake Rattles Southern California

A magnitude-4.5 earthquake hits Yorba Linda, rattling residents in Los Angeles County. Four aftershocks followed.

Less than 12 hours after a magnitude-4.4 earthquake in Yorba Linda rattled Southern California, a temblor with a preliminary magnitude of 4.5 shook the same area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

The epicenter of the earthquake, which hit at 9:33 a.m. Wednesday, was about 2 miles north-northeast of Yorba Linda, Calif., and about 29 miles east-southeast of downtown Los Angeles, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

Within a half hour, four more earthquakes, ranging in magnitude from 1.6 to 3.7, struck the same general area, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

There have been 19 earthquakes on the Whittier Fault since shortly after 11:20 p.m. Tuesday night.
