New Option Emerges to Fight Your Traffic Ticket

TicketKick is opening locations across Southern California and providing services through Papa Cash.

You might know how much it hurts to pay up to $500 for a ticket sent to your home — with a picture of you included — thanks to those red-light cameras located at many intersections.

In cities like Baldwin Park, Lynwood and South Gate, drivers can be captured by the cameras when a potential infraction occurs. Those caught end up with just two options: pay the ticket or fight it in court.

However, some motorists are starting to turn to another lesser known option to contest their tickets: TicketKick.com, a legal service agency that opened locations across Southern California, including one at 14135 Francisquito Ave. in Baldwin Park.

"We find that many people in the Hispanic community prefer to do business face-to-face, and we're happy to cater to their needs and preferences," says Greg Muender, founder and president of TicketKick. "At each location, we provide bilingual reps and documents in both English and Spanish, making it convenient for those who prefer either language to take care of their traffic ticket."

TicketKick is using Papa Cash, the check advance payment stores, to provide TicketKick services. Lynwood and South Gate residents may find Papa Cash stores in Huntington Park or Maywood are their closest options.

TicketKick helps drivers challenge their tickets through trial by written declaration or trial by mail, said Sarah Schoonover, spokeswoman for the company. With a trial by written declaration, a driver can submit a defense to a ticket using a traffic court form. Trial by mail allows those ticketed to submit a letter stating why they are not guilty of the infractions.

The company said it averages more than 500 drivers a month who request their services.

"About 70 percent of our cases get dismissed," said Schoonover. "We are actually very surprised that we have been able to reach the Hispanic community," she added.

All customers pay between $79 and $199 to the company to handle the documents and defense preparation to contest traffic violations.

Schoonover said besides red-light camera tickets, the company helps customers with speeding tickets, stop sign tickets, cell phone tickets and other common traffic infractions.
