Workforce Development Efforts: President Obama's Job-Driven Training Initiative and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 Event

There is a question that everyone asks themselves at one time or another.  For some people, this question may evolve when they are kids, playing with building blocks or drawing pictures.  Others may ask themselves this question while filling out a college application.  Whether one is 5 or 55 years old, the question of “what do I want to do with my life,” is always looming.

MAPS 4 College or MAPS, is a nonprofit organization that helps students and adults find their purpose.  As its name indicates, MAPS does help high school students with their ACT and SAT tests, college applications, and finding scholarships, but preparing for college is only one element of what the organization offers.

The MAPS Leadership and Career Training Program, or LCT Program, helps high school and college students and adults find their purpose through a unique curriculum developed by Founder and CEO Dr. Sarai Koo.

Koo took the best of every program she researched during her doctorate program research, her time studying human development, and her own personal experiences and combined it into one, all-inclusive program.

Before Koo developed MAPS in 2006, there wasn’t one place where people could go to be completely fulfilled and happy.  The school system keeps students in the classroom, the workplace is where people make their money, but neither of these places give us what we need to be completely fulfilled.

The MAPS LCT Program is free of charge fills in the gaps where other programs fall short.  The program helps people find the right career and gets students the most out of their education, all while helping them obtain balance in their personal and professional life.

MAPS wants to spread the word about what people’s options are regarding new developments in the job market.  On Aug. 5, the organization is hosting a New National Workforce Development Efforts: President Obama’s Job-Driven Training Initiative and the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act of 2014 event in Cerritos, Calif. The event will take place at the Liberty Park and Fitness Center in the Washington Room and will take place from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m.

Attendees will hear from Senior Policy Advisor / Deputy Director from the Department of Labor Ben Seigel.  Seigel will speak on youth employment, apprenticeship, immigrant integration, grants, and other skills related work to inform the public about new workforce development information.

Though the question of one’s purpose is always present, no one has to answer it alone.  With the MAPS LCT Program, there is always someone to provide guidance.  One must only be willing to take the first step and ask.
