Sierra Vista Girls Soccer Continues to Dominate Montview League

sierra Vista boys, girls soccer team wins matches against Gladstone tuesday afternoon. Both teams currently lead the Montview League standings

AZUSA – The Sierra Vista girls’ soccer team showed why it is the five-time Montview League champions as they easily dispatched the hosts Gladstone Gladiators 7-0 Tuesday afternoon in a league match.  In addition to being undefeated in league play so far, the Dons have yet to concede a goal in league as well.

Dons’ head coach Steven Jimenez attribute the success of his team to the fact that the players play year around.  Jimenez, who also coaches a club team during off season which include a couple of the players on the Don’s team,  said that he asks that all his girls play for a club in the offseason which gives them the advantage over teams who doesn’t have players who play year-around

“We get to mold the players and teach them how we want them to play,” he said. “The basic fundamentals, the offensive philosophy, defensive philosophy, things like that.”

Daisy Ruiz and Alejandra Vargas each scored a goal to round out the first half scoring.  Vargas added two more goals in the second half to complete a hat trick of her own.

Because of the nature of its wins, Jimenez is able to play everybody every game.

“I don’t like to run up the score. I will pull my starters out after about 25 minutes into the match to let the younger players get some experience,” he said. “What better way to gain experience but to actually get into the game.”
