BLOG: The Importance of Participating in Baldwin Park City Government

At my age many people don't expect me to contribute much to our community. Yet, with much excitement, I have been able to participate in city government. What about you.

Ever since the passage of the 26th amendment to the United States Constitution, we have seen lower and lower voter participation. Today the voter turn out is only about 48%, and could continue to go further down if we don't act now.

The recent U.S Census has shown that Latinos might become, very soon,  the majority of these country. Although if you live in Baldwin Park you dont need a census to tell you that. Now, let me ask you a question, as a Latino, or if you are of any other ethnicity, are you doing your part for the community.

At my age (17-yrs-old) many people dont expect me to contribute much to our community or, because of my ethnicity, expect me to amount to anything, besides a lowly job of a very little oppurtunity.

Yet, with much excitement, I have been able to partcipate in city government. As of June, I will be serving my community in the . I am very excited to be allowed to serve in this position and serve my city and be able to improve it.

Now allow me to ask you, will you want to take part in serving your community? whether it be directly working with city government, or simply doing community service. Or, will you just sit down and complain about the problems you have or are witnessing. So why dont we come together, and use are rights as citizens and participate in our government so that we can improve our community and our way of life.
