Move to Read: Produce Stand

La Cucaracha never sounded so healthy... as we dance to the Produce Stand

As I take off to present at theYale-School of the 21st Century conference (in Little Rock, Arkansas this year!), I will have another opportunity to mingle with some more of the finest professionals in our country.....educators!  It's an honor to be invited back to share my Move to Read brainchild with folks from early ed., special needs, English language developers, and researchers!  An idea that incubated here in Baldwin Park, as I continuously watched students s-t-r-u-g-g-le with learning a movement in a water aerobics class, and then a literacy skill in an ESL class.  Couldn't get it, no matter how many times it was taught the same way.  So now it's common knowledge; music, movement, rhythm and rhyme make it happen for many.  Make it real, take it off the page.  Kids can Read by 9, kids and adults can Read Across America, just do as our First Lady touts.....Let's Move!

As you try this fun activity about produce; ask, have you tried this fruit or veggie, if so, how?  What is its shape, size, color and texture?  Is it sweet or tart?  Do you like it, why or why not? Where or how do they grow?  Have you ever picked produce?  Have you been to our Community Garden?
