Investigation Continues at Deadly Tour Bus Crash Scene on SR 38

The Tijuana-bound tour bus that overturned Sunday is registered to Scapadas Magicas LLC of National City, CHP Officer Mario Lopez.

Emergency workers were set to remove the remains of two deceased victims before noon Monday from a Tijuana-bound tour bus that overturned Sunday night on State Route 38 north of Yucaipa, where at least eight fatalities were confirmed and many more were injured.

The bus is registered in National City and the bus driver, who survived the three-vehicle crash, was from San Diego, California Highway Patrol Officer Leon Lopez said at the scene.

The passengers on the bus had traveled from Tijuana to Big Bear, and they were returning Sunday evening when the crash occurred about 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3, Lopez said.

A total of 38 patients were transported from the crash scene Sunday night, one by helicopter and the rest by ground ambulances, a San Bernardino County Fire spokesman said at the scene.

Posted 8:21 a.m. Coroner's and crash investigators were preparing Monday morning to remove remains of at least one victim from a tour bus that overturned Sunday night on State Route 38 north of Yucaipa, where at least eight fatalities were confirmed and many more were injured.

The three-vehicle crash was reported just after 6:30 p.m. Feb. 3 on the 38 north of Bryant Street, east of Mentone and Redlands, according to the CHP.

The bus is registered to Scapadas Magicas LLC of National City, CHP Officer Mario Lopez said at a road block south of the crash scene.

The 38 was closed at Bryant and the road was expected to remain closed until later Monday as the investigation continued at the scene.
