UPDATED: 5-year-old Child Hit by a Car in Irwindale

The child was struck near the East Arrow Highway intersection with Rivergrade Road, just in front of the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Area entrance.

A 5-year-old child was hit by a car in Irwindale Friday afternoon in front of the Santa Fe Dam Recreation Park entrance.

L.A. County Fire Inspector Quvondo Johnson told City News Service the child was not breathing when paramedics transported the child to a trauma center.

The child was struck near the East Arrow Highway intersection with Rivergrade Road around 1:30 p.m.

The SGV Tribune reported the child was with his father and younger sister, who was in a stroller, as they tried to cross Arrow Highway.

According to the newspaper a Jeep Cherokee heading west on Arrow Highway in the No. 2 lane failed to see the boy and he was either thrown or carried about 50 feet following the impact.
