The Baldwin Park School Police aided in setting up a DUI checkpoint in Arcadia

More than 900 people were arrested this week in the Southland through a crackdown targeting impaired drivers.

The Summer/Labor Day National Anti-DUI crackdown resulted in 975 area arrests for people driving under the influence of alcohol or drugs between 12:01 a.m. Aug. 16 through midnight Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

That number is up significantly from the 888 DUI arrests made during the same eight-day time period last year, officials said.

As enforcement efforts continue with checkpoints and extra patrols in El Monte, Norwalk, South Pasadena, West LA, San Dimas, Long Beach, Pomona and other cities, arrest data will continue through midnight Labor Day.
