Baldwin Park Police Carried the "Flame of Hope"

Five Police officers ran Thursday carrying the torch of the 2012 Summer Special Olympics of Southern California.

The Special Olympic torch lit up the way in Baldwin Park Thursday when five members of the ran 2.8 miles Thursday, carrying what is known as the "Flame of Hope".

Since May 29th, officers from local, county, state, federal, and military agencies have been carrying the torch throughout Southern California as part of the 2012 Law Enforcement Torch Run.

Three different routes (including the one who cross Baldwin Park) will join together on June 9 at the campus of California State University, Long Beach for the 2012 Summer Games.

There the three torches will be "unified" into a single flame that will be used to light the Opening Ceremony cauldron for the Games.

Baldwin Park Police officers ran from Northwest on Pacific Avenue and then west on Ramona Blvd. They hand off the torch to El Monte Police Department close to the intersection with the Interstate 605 Freeway.

According to Lt. David Reynoso, spokesperson of the BPPD, this department has been participating in the Torch Run for the last 10 years.
