A man was killed today when a big rig tractor -a truck designed to haul a trailer- crashed into a parked big rig on the transition from the northbound San Gabriel River (605) Freeway to the eastbound Foothill (210) Freeway in Irwindale.
The crash occurred about 9 a.m., said California Highway Patrol Officer Monica Posada.
Theodore Sipma, 66, of Buena Park, was transitioning from the northbound San Gabriel (605) Freeway onto the eastbound 210 at 55 to 65 mph when he rear-
ended a big rig driven by Dennis Brummett, 62, of Las Vegas, who had parked on the right shoulder to refer to a map book, CHP officials said.
Sipma's tractor overturned and came to rest on its roof, blocking the entire transition road. Sipma was extricated from the wreckage and pronounced dead about 9:30 a.m.
Authorities closed the transition road through about 2 p.m. to investigate the crash.
