Cal Poly Pomona Student Struck and Killed by Car

Ivan Arturo Aguilar, 21, was riding his bicycle along Kellogg Drive when he was hit by a car and died.

A Cal Poly Pomona student was struck and killed by car Thursday while riding his bicycle on Kellogg Drive.

Ivan Arturo Aguilar, 21, was hit at 12:45 p.m. near a bridge that crosses over Eucalyptus Lane, according to university officials.

The communication student was taken to the Pomona Valley Hospital Medical Center where he was pronounced dead.

“This is a tragic day for the Cal Poly Pomona community. We are deeply saddened by the death of one our students, Ivan Arturo Aguilar. We extend our deepest sympathies to his friends and family during this painful time,” said University President Michael Ortiz in a news release.

Kellogg Drive between Campus Drive and Red Gum Lane was closed after the accident and is not expected to reopen until Friday morning.  Motorists are asked to use University Drive during the Kellogg closure.

The Pomona Police Department is investigating the accident and interviewing witnesses, according to the university.

Cal Poly plans to offer counseling services to witnesses of the accident.
