Child Safety Seat Check-up Event Available for Free on Saturday

The California Highway Patrol in Baldwin Park will hold the event at the Mattel Toy Store in the City of Industry.

The will offer assistance with Child Passenger Safety (CPS) seat installation this Saturday, July 21, in City of Industry. 

According to Officer Kerri Rivas, spokesperson for the CHP, the event is free and open to the public. It will take place at the Mattel Toy Store, at 15930 E. Valley Blvd., from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.

Residents should be aware of , which makes it mandatory for children under 8 to travel in the back seat of a car and buckled into a car seat or booster seat.

"Each year, hundreds of children are killed or seriously injured in motor
vehicle collisions," expressed Rivas in a press release. "Studies have shown child safety seats can reduce fatal injury by 72% for infants and by 54% for toddlers, ages 1-4," Rivas added.

Authorities will have trained certified CPS technicians/officers
inspecting child seats and offering traffic safety information.

The goal is to educate parents on the proper installation and use of child
passenger seats.  

Inspections will be done through appointments only, which can be set up by calling Officer Rivas of the CHP Baldwin Park office at (626) 338-1164.
