Covina Soccer Coach Charged with Inappropriate Texting to Player

Albert Gutierrez, 45, of West Covina, was arrested on suspicion of texting ``inappropriate'' messages to an 11-year-old female player on his team.

Covina police arrested a youth soccer coach on suspicion of texting "inappropriate'' messages to an 11-year-old female player on his team, authorities said today.

Albert Gutierrez, 45, of West Covina, was arrested on Wednesday at his home, Covina police Sgt. Ray Marquez said. Gutierrez was booked on suspicion of "contacting (a) minor with intent to commit certain offenses,'' and was released on bail, Marquez said. He is scheduled to be arraigned Feb. 13 in West Covina.

The inappropriate text messages were reported in December, Marquez said.

"The victim indicated Mr. Gutierrez sent her several inappropriate text messages which caused her concern,'' Marquez said in a statement. "The victim immediately notified her mother of the inappropriate text messages from her coach.''

The woman confronted the coach about the text messages, Marquez said.
