DUI Checkpoint Scheduled for Friday in Baldwin Park

Police will be checking for drunk and unlicensed drivers at an undisclosed time and location.

If you are driving around Baldwin Park Friday, you might find a DUI and driver's license checkpoint set up sometime during the day at an undisclosed location, says the .

"The program is a proven and effective tool for achieving the city's goal in removing impaired drivers from our streets," said Officer Ted Espanto, traffic bureau-grant coordinator.

"The potential for an impaired driver to become involved in a traffic collision is greater due to a driver's slowed response and poor decision making while under the influence of alcohol or drugs," he added.

According to authorities, these types of enforcement programs also provide officers an opportunity to educate the driving public about safer driving habits and the consequences of drinking and driving.

The Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said the "Avoid the 100" — Los Angeles County anti-DUI campaign — will be deploying additional officers on overtime this weekend as well, supporting routine traffic and patrol officers and focusing on drinking-driver hotspots.

Police, sheriff and California Highway Patrol officers will have zero tolerance in dealing with impaired drivers who fail to use sober designated drivers.
