A 28-year-old man from Hong Kong was shot and killed in a robbery in West Covina, a police lieutenant said today.
The robbery and shooting occurred about 2:30 p.m. Friday in the parking lot of a group of restaurants in the 100 block of North Barranca Avenue, said Officer Rudy Lopez of the West Covina Police Department.
Police found the victim, identified as Sheron Khemlani, suffering from an injury to his head, and paramedics rushed him to an area hospital where he was pronounced dead.
The victim was on vacation and had stopped to eat at one of the restaurants with his brother,'' Lopez said. "As the two were returning to their vehicle, which was parked in the middle of the parking lot, two suspects assaulted and then robbed them.''
Lopez said the victim's brother suffered non-life threatening injuries and was taken to a hospital. His identity was withheld.
The suspects fled the scene and were seen running to a waiting vehicle that was also parked in the lot, Lopez said. The vehicle, last seen speeding away through the parking lot, was described only as having four doors.
West Covina detectives asked anyone with any information regarding the robbery to call them at (626) 939-8576.
