Man Killed by Alleged Drunken Driver in Azusa Identified

The victim was Jose Martin Reyes, 57, of Azusa, Los Angeles County Coroner's Investigator Elissa Fleak said. Reyes' autopsy was pending, she said.

The driver killed by a suspected drunken motorist in a two-vehicle crash in Azusa was identified Sunday by the county coroner's office.

Jose Martin Reyes, 57, of Azusa, was pronounced dead at the scene, according to Los Angeles County Coroner's Investigator Elissa Fleak.

Reyes' autopsy was pending, she said.

The crash was reported at 12:30 a.m. Saturday at the intersection of
Gladstone Street and Jackson Avenue, said California Highway Patrol Officer
Patrick Kimball.

The victim's 2006 Toyota was headed north on Jackson when it was
broadsided by a 2001 GMC pickup truck going an estimated 80 miles per hour,
according to the CHP accident report.

The GMC truck was driven by Juan C. Salinas-Reyes, 38, also of Azusa. Both vehicles sustained major damage.

Salinas-Reyes' vehicle continued out of control and struck a wooden
pole, which was sheared in half. Power lines blocked traffic lanes after the
crash, Kimball said.

Salinas-Reyes was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence
of alcohol causing death, driving with a suspended license, vehicular
manslaughter while under the influence of alcohol with gross negligence and
driving with a blood alcohol concentration of .08 percent or greater causing
death.

He suffered cuts to his face and leg, the CHP reported.

A spokeswoman for Southern California Edison said there were no outages
as a result of the downed power lines.

Anyone with information on this crash was asked to call the Baldwin park
CHP office at 626-338-1164.

The man killed was my friends dad when are you going to realize that this man along with every other person are just ruining their lives, their families lives, costing innocent civilian's lives and tearing apart families. If you morons would just take the alcohol away my friend would have his dad for Christmas new years and the rest of his life. Mr Reyes is going to miss his children graduate, get married, have grandchildren all because of some retard that was so cool he had to get drunk. So we can sit here and continue to let this happen or we can stop it.

This evil man took my dad from us (my mom, my brother, my sister, the rest of the mourning family, and I). Our lives will never be the same again. My dad will never see us grow up or even graduate eighth grade (I'm only 11 and the oldest of the three). My sister and I were looking forward to the upcoming Father and Daughter Dance but will not be able to attend ever again because of this evil man. We didn't even get to spend Christmas with him. Many tears and pain spread throughout the family because of this guy who thought he must have been so cool getting drunk. Gerry was right. If you would just take away alcohol, my dad would be here to see us grow up, go to college and start families. But because of this evil evil man,he couldn't. So I hope that nobody ever drinks and drives again so that this won't happen to another family.
