One man was killed and another wounded today in a car-to-car shooting in Baldwin Park, authorities said.

The shooting in the 3800 block of Maine Avenue was reported at 1:06 a.m., according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department.

"It appears that the cars were driving down the street. One was shooting at the other as they were driving," said Lt. John Cortina of the L.A. County Sheriff's Homicide Bureau to KTLA5.

"Some of the rounds missed the car they were shooting at and stuck other vehicles on the street and even struck some homes."

Both victims were taken to a hospital, where one was pronounced dead and the other was listed in stable condition, officials said.

Authorities withheld the name of the dead man, who was 22 and from Baldwin Park, pending family notification, said coroner's Assistant Chief Ed Winter.

Sheriff's homicide detectives were sent to assist Baldwin Park police in the shooting investigation.

Anyone with information about the shooting was urged to call sheriff's homicide detectives at (323) 890-5500. Anonymous tips can be made by calling Crime Stoppers at (800) 222-TIPS.
