The Baldwin Park Police Department (BPPD) continues to investigate the cause and suspects of a shooting that took place on Monday evening, in which a 21-year-old man was hit by gunfire.
According to Lt. David Reynoso, spokesperson for the BPPD, the incident happened in an apartment complex at the 3100 block of Vineland Ave. around 9:45 p.m.
Officers responded to a report of shots fired, and upon arriving at the scene they found the victim in the back of the apartment complex.
Paramedics transported the man to a hospital, where his condition is reported as stable.
Witnesses told authorities that they saw a small white car fleeing from the scene after the shooting.
"Its scary. To know something like this happen in the back of your house," said Olga Santiago, a resident in the apartment complex.
"This is a nice neighborhood. I don't understand how something like this happened," added Frank Gutierrez, another resident of the complex.
Reynoso said that the victim had just arrived at his girlfriend's home when he was attacked. Authorities did not identify the victim and do not consider the shooting to be gang-related.
Police are asking anyone with information about the incident to call 626-960-1955.
