Quick Thinking CHP Officer Saves Elder Man's Life

The victim may have suffered a heart-attack while traveling on the 210 Freeway, officials said. The officer was from the Baldwin Park CHP office.

A California Highway Patrol officer administered chest compressions on a pulseless and unconscious 81-year-old man and was able to resuscitate the victim before paramedics arrived, authorities said.

The medical emergency, reported at 11 a.m., happened on the southbound Foothill (210) Freeway at Fruit Street in La Verne, the CHP reported.

CHP Officer Ruth Rodriguez of the Baldwin Park office arrived at the scene to find the man, a Sherman Oaks resident, unconscious and unresponsive in a 2013 Honda Odyssey minivan, which was in the center median on the freeway.
