Two men accused of stealing a $100 bill from a 78- year-old woman who had just pulled into a gas station to fill her tank were caught by West Covina police today.
Shortly after 10 a.m., police were sent to Sunset and Merced avenues where two suspects had walked up and pulled the money from the woman's hand and then fled. A witness called police, giving accurate descriptions of the suspects and their direction of travel, said Officer Rudy Lopez of the West Covina Police Department.
Officers quickly located Aaron Bryce Simmons, 21, of West Covina at Sunset and Vine Avenue and took him into custody without incident, Lopez said.
Then they set up a containment in the 1300 block of West Mossberg Avenue and with the help of police dogs and a California Highway Patrol helicopter located Gregory Josh Martin, 21, of Texas after a two-hour search.
Martin was located including in a rear yard and the money was recovered.
The suspects were jailed for robbery and bail was set at $100,000 each. They are due in West Covina Superior Court on Thursday at 8:30 a.m.
