Two Baldwin Park Men Arrested After Stolen Merchandise Posted on Craigslist

The victim found his stolen golf clubs on Craigslist and alerted the West Covina Police Department.

Two Baldwin Park men were arrested on suspicion of possessing stolen property after they allegedly tried to sell a set of golf clubs posted on Craigslist to undercover West Covina Police Department officers, authorities said Tuesday.

Police arrested Ricardo Sanchez, 33, and Jose Flores, 34, both of Baldwin Park, at a Jack in the Box restaurant located at 14611 Dalewood St.

The suspects stole the golf clubs and other merchandise from an unlocked car parked in the 400 block of North Nora Ave. in West Covina last weekend, according to West Covina Police Sgt. Dave Lee.

After the victim discovered the missing golf clubs, he went online looking for another set on Craigslist.com and found the listing for his stolen clubs.

He alerted police immediately and officers contacted the seller.

The undercover officers arrived at the agreed-to location and the seller along with a second man showed up with some of the stolen clubs. Both were arrested by the WCPD officers.

Other property from the victim was also recovered in one of the suspects' homes, authorities said.

Crimes like these are very common, said Lee.

In July, three men used a handgun to rob a Baldwin Park man and his friends who had responded to a Craigslist post advertising a computer for sale.

The robbery happened in the parking lot of the Brunswick West Covina Lanes bowling alley.

"Some people even post things that don't exist and meet with potential buyers because they know they will come with money," he said. "Best recommendation is always meet in a place with a lot of people and never in a parking lot or in the middle of the night," he added.
