A 25-year-old Baldwin Park man whose 1974 Volkswagen Beetle crashed into a wooden utility pole near West Covina Saturday died later at a hospital, the California Highway Patrol reported.
Andrew Joey Villagran was alone in the car, authorities said.
The crash at 15610 San Bernardino Road -- near Orange Avenue -- was reported just after 2 a.m., the CHP reported.
According to CHP Officer Patrick Kimball, Villagran was traveling west on San Bernardino Road when his car veered to the left, crossed the eastbound lanes and jumped the curb.
The Beetle then smashed into a pole, the officer wrote in a news release.
Medics took Villagran to Los Angeles County-USC Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead.
