West Covina Appoints New Interim Chief of Police

Paul LaCommare has been appointed interim chief of the West Covina Police Department, it was announced Wednesday.

The 31-year veteran of the West Covina force was appointed to the post by City Manager Christopher Chung following the retirement of Frank Wills after 14 years as police chief.

Raised in West Covina, LaCommare has spent all of his professional career with the department.

He began as a cadet in November 1981, became a police officer in 1983, a corporal in 1996, a sergeant in 1999, a lieutenant in 2003, a commander in 2009 and assistant chief in January of this year, before retiring from active service in March.

He holds a bachelor's degree in public administration from the University of La Verne and a master's degree from Cal State Long Beach.
