West Covina Chase Ends on Diamond Bar Freeway

Suspect was possibly disturbed and was taken into custody after CHP officers stopped him on the 60 freeway.

A reportedly mentally disturbed man was behind bars Friday night after leading West Covina and CHP officers on a chase into Diamond Bar after refusing to stop for police.

The chase ended in Diamond Bar just before 10 p.m. on the Interstate 60 freeway eastbound, at the Brea Canyon Canyon Road off ramp when California Highway Patrol officers utilized the PIT Maneuver to stop the driver.

The suspect was arrested by CHP officers. The name of the driver was not immediately available.

The chase began after 9:30 p.m. in West Covina.

According to scanner reports, the male Asian driver may have been a 5150 case and took off after West Covina officers attempted a traffic stop. The driver reported ran red lights during the pursuit on surface streets.

By 9:51 p.m., West Covina officers requested the CHP to take over the chase as it neared the 60 freeway. CHP units followed the driver and ended the pursuit, accordint to an officer at the CHP.

The Brea Canyon Road off ramp was closed temporarily while officers were still on scene.
