A woman sustained major injuries this morning following a hit-and-run on Valley Boulevard at Temple Avenue.
At 6:35 a.m., an unknown driver in a white tractor-trailer with no visible markings was traveling on the northbound Interstate 605 at the Valley Boulevard exit at around 5 mph. The driver was in the number two lane of the exit approaching a red light at Valley Boulevard and Temple Avenue, according to a news release.
A woman was walking eastbound on Valley Boulevard and crossing the intersection at the crosswalk with a green light when the tractor-trailer exited the freeway and failed to yield for her. The rear of the trailer struck the victim, and then pushed and dragged her approximately 20 feet, authorities said.
After the driver struck the pedestrian, the tractor-trailer kept going eastbound on Valley Boulevard. personnel from the Baldwin Park area office responded to the scene, as did the Los Angeles County Fire Department.
The woman hit sustained major external injuries to her head and body, as well as internal injuries. She was transported to USC Medical Center by ambulance. She was conscious and able to make a limited statement to the investigating officer.
