City Council Sustainability Update

Officials are in the process of writing a sustainable communities element for the City's General Plan, with funding provided by a grant from the state. The city hired a firm to help draft the sustainability element.

As part of the sustainability element, a monthly status report is provided for observation.

The following activities took place in August:
Followup on one-on-one stakeholder interviews were conducted on August 20 with the Baldwin Park Resident Advisory Council. Pending is the Baldwin Park Woman's Club

Discussion of Ambassador training for select residents.

Provided city staff with staff report on Commission agenda to appointment of a Recreation and Community Services Commissioner to sit on the Advisory Committee. The Recreation and Community Services Commission appointed JoAnn Watkins at their August 5 meeting.

FInalized Spanish translation of the Sustainability Element Fact Sheet for dissemination at community events and project website.

Planning and coordinating for the Sustainability Booth at the Nov. 2 Celebrate Baldwin Park Carnival. Discussed were: giveaways and sponsorships of local businesses. best practices portrayed through a pictorial; logistics; coordination with the Baldwin Park Unified School District Assistant Superintendent to utilize CONNECT-Ed for outreach.

Discussion and coordination of the Advisory Committee. The following will participate as contributing members: Planning Commissioner Natalie Ybarra, Recreation & Community Services Commissioner JoAnn Watkins, Glora Banuelos of Kaiser Permanente, Christine Dennis of the BPUSD, Teri Muse of Waste Management, Rosa Soto of California Center for Public Health Advocacy, Baldwin Park Resident Advisory Committee, Sergio Beltran of 7-Eleven on Maine and a City Council appointee.

Attendance of People on The Move collaborative on Aug. 27 to provide overview and status of Sustainability Element Framework and future participation opportunities.

Final review and coordination of project website. The website was launched Aug. 7.

Ongoing project management and coordination including quarterly reporting and invoicing for quarters 1 and 2 to Department of Conservation.
