Baldwin Park Student Wins Congressional Art Contest

Sierra Vista High School student Lucero Moreno has taken 1st place in the 32nd. Congressional District's 2013 Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery."

Sierra Vista High School student, Lucero Moreno, has taken 1st place in the 32nd. Congressional District’s 2013 Congressional Art Competition, "An Artistic Discovery.”

Congresswoman Grace Napolitano (D-Calif.) announced the winner last Saturday in a ceremony held at the Walker House in San Dimas.

Moreno’s prize-winning work was a mixed-media art piece entitled “The Wise One.”

Griselda Rentería from Gladstone High School in Azusa and Alma Tapia also from Sierra Vista High School, won the second place and third place respectively. 

The first place winner will get flown out to Washington, D.C. to be honored along with other young artists across the country, and they will also have their work hung in the halls of Congress for a year.

Second place will be shown in Napolitano’s Washington, D.C. office, and third place in her El Monte office.

All pieces of art are currently on display at the Walker House, 121 North San Dimas Ave., San Dimas.

Every spring since 1982, the U.S. House of Representatives sponsors a nationwide high school arts contest designed to encourage and recognize the artistic talents of artists in our nation. Over 650,000 high school students have been involved with the nationwide competition since it began.
