VIDEO: Hundreds Protest Teacher Layoffs at School Board Meeting

At least 300 persons marched to the Baldwin Park School District Office to speak out against teacher layoffs.

Hundreds of parents, teachers and students marched today to the (BPUSD) office to protest the and packed a small auditorium to speak out against the action.

At least 300 people were counted by the Baldwin Park School Police, according to an estimate given by a police dispatcher. Organizers said at least 500 participated in the rally.

The number of teachers laid off is 35 according to a school official. The BPUSD face a potential deficit of 6 million dollar for next school year.

People wearing red shirts and and holding banners in support of the teachers started the rally in Morgan Park around 5 p.m. and then marched along Pacific Avenue.

Because the auditorium was packed, hundreds of people were forced to stay outside.

School officials gave the public and protesters two hours to comment on the layoffs. No official action was scheduled to be taken on Tuesday.
