Student Bullied in Baldwin Park Graduates from Virtual Academy

More than 150 attendees from across Southern California graduated last week without setting foot in a classroom. One of them was Ram Reyes, a Baldwin Park resident who decide to enroll in the California Virtual Academies (CAVA) to escape bullying.

Reyes was bullied so badly in Sierra Vista high school that he was afraid to go to school and for a moment he taught he could not continue his education.

But thanks to CAVA, a tuition-free, full-time online public charter school for students in grades K-12, he was able to graduate last week with his virtual school peers.

Being a CAVA student he could spend time on what he loved and with what he calls his true friends, said Reyes.

"It was great for me, I was able to get so many classes I like, " told Reyes to Patch. "And I was lucky to be able to avoid kids that were bothering me at school."

Reyes is now ready to attend Mt. San Antonio College to study Aviation.

This year, there were about 700 students graduating statewide.

At CAVA, California-credentialed teachers deliver lessons in K12s virtual classroom platform with a combination of online and offline coursework—including a wide array of textbooks, CDs, videos, and hands-on materials.

CAVA embraces technology to individualize a child’s education according to his or her strengths, learning styles, and challenges. CAVA serves students all over California in grades K-12, offering the award- winning K12 curriculum.

Students include advanced learners, athletes and performers, students who need extra help in some subjects, and those that might feel anxious or unsafe in their school environment.
