Belly Dance, Zumba and Salsa Classes Available

The Baldwin Park Community Center offers specialty classes.

Roll up your sleeves, get your shoes ready, buy your new hip scarf or get a new pair of boxing gloves for the specialty exercise classes offered at the .

Learn to dance Latin Salsa or try belly dancing. Get in shape with Zumba Fitness, tae kwon do, judo or kickboxing classes.

The community center located at 4100 Baldwin Park Blvd. offers more than 10 different specialty classes to keep the city healthy. Here are the class descriptions:

Latin Salsa

This class is designed to teach participants the basic techniques and moves of Latin Salsa. This course also teaches spins, styling and the rhythm of the music. Participants will gain solid foundation and knowledge of salsa moves to apply socially or professionally if desired. Each participant will need to supply their own shoes by the second week of class. All new participants will be evaluated by the instructor and placed in the appropriate class based on skill level.

All Wednesdays from 6 p.m. to 7 p.m.  Ages 18 years and older.

Sessions start again on Feb. 8.

Fee: $28 for residents, $38 non-residents

Belly Dance

Learn the beautiful dances of the Middle East with this dance that will increase your strength, stamina, and flexibility while exploring the graceful artistic expressions of the Middle Eastern dance movement. Dance your way to great abs and reduce stress levels. All participants will be evaluated to be placed in the appropriate level.

All Wednesdays from 7:30 p.m. to 8:30 p.m.

Session starts again Jan. 18.

Fee: $38 for residents and $48 non-residents

Zumba Fitness

Zumba Fitness fuses hypnotic musical rhythms and tantalizing moves to create a dynamic workout system designed to be FUN and EASY TO DO! By integrating Zumba into everyday life, individuals may achieve long-term benefits while experiencing an absolute blast in one exhilarating hour of caloric-burning, heart-racing, muscle-pumping and body-energizing movements.

All Tuesdays at 7 p.m and Saturdays at 8 a.m.

Session starts again Jan. 28

Fee: Saturdays, $23 for residents, $ 28 for non-residents. Tuesdays, $38 for residents, $43 for non-residents

Tae Kwon Do

This class teaches children discipline, respect, and responsibility. Tae kwon do also teaches participants methods to achieve full concentration, defend themselves, and become more aware of their surroundings. Uniform is required for this class.

All Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays. Hours vary.

Open to children 4-years-old and up

Fees:  Depending on level, from $28 for residents up to $43 for non-residents

Classes start Feb. 2

Judo

Enjoy the gentle art of judo. This martial art teaches self-defense without the use of extreme force. All new students will be evaluated by the instructor and placed in the appropriate class based on skill level.

All Wednesdays, Fridays and Saturdays

Open to children 6-year-old and up.

Fees: $25 for residents and $35 for non residents ages 6-17 years old. Adults residents pay $35 and non-residents adults pay $45
