Abused Cat Adopted in Baldwin Park

Lily Butterfly found a home after she was rescued following repeated abuse by her owner. More cats and dogs await adoption.

A gray-hair tabby cat who was repeatedly found a home this week, according to Christina Fuentes of the Department of Animal Care and Control.

Lilly Butterfly, as the cat was named by the volunteers at Baldwin Park Animal Shelter, came to the attention of the authorities in early December when they responded to a disturbance call in La Puente, according to Evelina Villa, spokeswoman for the department.

There they found a cat who had been abused by her 18-year-old owner. The owner was arrested on animal cruelty charges by the Los Angeles Sheriff's Department.

The suspect has yet to be identified.

Authorities believe he hit the pet whenever he argued with his mother, which they said happened quite often. He punched the animal, slammed her against the wall and threw her across the room.

“A lot of people think they are just animals. But when you abuse them, it becomes a serious matter,” said Officer Laura Rocha of the Department of Animal Care and Control.  “And this is the best example of what can happen.”

Rocha said there are more cats and dogs waiting to be adopted.
