The City of Baldwin Park will support the fight against cancer this Saturday when the "Relay for Life" event starts at 9:00 a.m. in the Football Field.

The Relay for Life raises funds for the American Cancer Society and honors those whose lives have been touched by cancer. The American Cancer Society encourages teams to have somebody walking the track from the beginning of the event to the end, though that is not mandatory.

The city of Baldwin Park is asking all participants to walk a minimum of 30 minutes from May 19th at 9:00am to May20th at 9:00am (24 hours).

Also people can donate items for raffles, participate in fundraisers, donate funds or sign up to walk during the event.

In addition to teams raising money to walk in the event, individuals can purchase Luminaria for $10 each. The white bags each represent a person who has had a cancer, a survivor or one who passed away. They can be purchased the day of the event or through the Relay for Life website. The Luminaria are lined up around the track and lit as night falls.

"Please join me on May 19th at Baldwin Park High School to Kick Off Relay For Life!", invited all residentes Mayor ProTemp Susan Rubio. "I encourage all to go on-line today & sign up to join my team 'Cancer Fighters'. Let's help save lives."

People can make a donation to the Baldwin Park team here.
