Baldwin Park Man Arrested in Las Vegas Following Crash

Las Vegas Police suspect the man was under the influence when he caused a crash that severely injured a Las Vegas woman.

A Baldwin Park man was arrested this weekend after Las Vegas Police officials said he caused a crash while under the influence that left a woman hospitalized with serious injuries.

Nan Li, 24, was booked into Clark County Detention Center on Aug. 10 on suspicion of DUI with substantial bodily harm, according to Las Vegas Metropolitan Police.

The crash was reported at 5:59 a.m. Li was reportedly driving a 2012 Honda Odyssey west on Desert Inn Road approaching a red light at Buffalo Drive when he failed to stop, officers said. He struck a 2002 Dodge Grand Caravan traveling south on Buffalo that had just entered the intersection.

The Odyssey struck the left side of the Caravan tipping it over onto the passenger side and spinning it counter clockwise, officials said. Lee Ann Smith, 40, of Las Vegas was the Caravan’s driver and had the green light, according to police investigators.

The Dodge Grand Caravan came to rest on facing north in the intersection, officials said. Fire crews had to extricate Smith from her vehicle. She was taken by ambulance to University Medical Center Trauma.

Li was given field sobriety tests that officers said he failed. Li had a two passengers, Jialin Yu, 25, of Baldwin Park, and Ricky Xiao, 26, of Las Vegas. Both suffered minor injuries, officials said.

The collision remains under investigation.
